Search engine marketing (SEM) is a broad term. It encompasses every form of advertising on the Internet including strategies such as search engine optimization (SEO), which is used to promote a website by attaining higher ranking on the search engines. If you use these 6 SEM tools regularly, you’ll have a better chance of seeing your company’s name near the top of the search engine results. Lets take a look at some of the most popular strategies:
1. Article Marketing
Article marketing involves using search engine optimized content to entice readers to your website. The articles are placed on an article directory and your company information and link are placed at the bottom. The search engines will also see these links as relevant authoritative links pointing back to your site, which is great for SEO and you can potentially get your website in front of many potential readers through article syndication.
2. On-Page Optimization
The website itself needs to be optimized and there are many on-page optimization factors to consider. For example, having keyword rich content on your page can help it reach the top of the results pages provided you are also implementing other good on page practices. When relevant keywords are combined with fresh and relevant content, it is usually a winning combination for the search engines. This means that updating your website regularly has a positive impact for SEO purposes. Don’t forget to check your site for technical issues and meta data, which is still important as it is an essential part of the SEO puzzle.
3. Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC)
With PPC, you pay for advertising only when someone clicks on it. Presumably, they would be clicking a link to your website where you would sell them something. Pay per click can be a very effective marketing strategy; when used correctly it can bring a large increase in buyers to your website. Personally, I use PPC as a supplemental strategy to organic SEO, as organic SEO has proven to be a much more cost effective web marketing strategy.

You might think of press releases as news items, and that is just how you should approach the material in them. However, they can be optimized and consequently have great effects for your search engine marketing campaign. Press releases fall under SEM because your company and product or service is essentially advertised, along with a link to your website. 5. Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing allows you the opportunity to build relationships and links across the web, and reach a large number of potential customers. You interact via Facebook, Twitter, or other various social media outlets. You need to be engaged with the community and take advantage of the conversations that are taking place regularly about your very market. Get involved or get left out!
6. Start a Blog
A very important tool for people who want to target a specific audience is using blogs. You can, again, use keyword optimization to bring visitors to your blog. Blogs can also help you make a name for yourself among other people in your industry. They allow you to be seen as an expert, and show the community that you have something of value to add to the marketplace. The real draw is the insider information available on blogs, as well as the comments people can make on them. Blogs, along with other search engine marketing tools can make your business more visible and popular. Additionally, blogs provide a natural way to provide fresh and relevant content for your readers as well as the search engines. This is a great strategy for search engine optimization.
