Building a websiteA new report by suggests that the future of commerce is online.  Yes, I know…  I bet you did not need a report to tell you that– unless of course you’ve been living under a rock! According to the report, “E-commerce sales are expected to grow from $81 million in 2005 to over $144 billion by 2011.” With this enormous growth in online sales, it only makes sense for businesses to have a website.

If you have a business and you still do not have a website… well really I do not know what to say other than- – What are you waiting for?   You need to design a website or hire a professional web design company to do it for you. Here are some of the biggest benefits your company will receive by doing so.

A website is a cost effective method of promoting your business. Essentially, a website allows your business to be open 24/7 to consumers. By adding your web address to print ads and other more traditional means of promotion allows potential customers to get much more information than can be provided in a small advertisement. People are using online sources more often than they are using the Yellow Pages.  In fact, yellow pages is becoming more and more obsolete every year. A website allows you to communicate decision influencing information such as awards you have won, customer testimonials, or reviews. It can also communicate such information like frequently asked questions about your products and business.

Just as no company would dream of conducting business without a phone, no modern business should operate without a website. Using the web gives you a chance to easily check out your online competition as well. This allows you to not only have a good grasp of the products and prices your competition is offering, it also gives you a starting place to begin your own campaigns of special offers and extra services. For example, if you offer a service such as a hair stylist or an attorney, a web site is a great way to post awards you have won, articles that demonstrate your credentials, photos of previous clients, a list of past cases won, etc.  In addition, search engine marketing tools allow you to get in depth data about what your competitors are doing and where they stand with the search engines.

Creatively selling yourself is expected and encouraged on your site. Other services such as interior designers or home renovators can really make use of the opportunity to showcase your talents with before and after pictures that would be expensive to otherwise advertise. Restaurants can have pictures of their food, positive reviews they have been given, and other basic marketing ideas. Even stores that don’t wish to actually do business online should have a website to give basic information such as store hours, location, and sales. No matter what industry your business belongs to, a website is an essential tool for marketing your company.

Do you agree or disagree?  Perhaps, I missed something?  Either way, I would just love to hear what your thoughts are on this topic… just let me know your alive!
